Grand Processions Gather Thousands for Ganga Idol Immersion in Patna | Patna News

Patna: Processions for the immersion of Goddess Durga idols began in Patna district from Saturday night, amid tight security and fanfare as the ten-day festival drew to a close.
The idol immersion marked the end of 10-day Dussehra festivities, which started from October 2 and concluded with Vijaydashmi on October 12.
More than 1,025 Puja committees took out the procession across the city in a peaceful manner for immersion of idols at the temporary ponds prepared on the banks of Ganga till Sunday evening. The religious ceremony saw a significant turnout as devotees gathered to revel on the occasion and to bid farewell to Goddess Durga.
Devotees lined the streets, especially the main road like Digha and Ashok Rajpath leading to ghats, to see the adorned idols on their way to immersion sites. The procession was accompanied by prayers, chants, and the blowing of conch shells, which created a vibrant yet poignant atmosphere. Large gatherings witnessed at Digha Patipul Ghat, Law College Ghat, Gai Ghat, Kangan Ghat and Bhadra Ghat, where devotees sprinkled flowers in the pond as they watched the idols slowly sink in the water.
The district administration and the Patna Municipal Corporation had prepared 13 temporary ponds at different ghats from Digha to Gai Ghat for the idols’ immersion rituals. A total of 1,403 puja committees had taken permission from the district administration for the immersion of idols.
Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh said most of the Puja committees completed the procession and idol immersion rituals peacefully on Sunday. “Following the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) guidelines, immersion was completely prohibited in the water bodies and the district authorities had created artificial ponds for this purpose,” he said.
“All the preparation at the ghats was reviewed by the ADM-rank officer and a large number of police force and constable were deputed at the immersion site to maintain law and order. This year, the civic body has done a stupendous job by ensuring cleanliness of the ponds after the immersions and they also maintained the level of Ganga water in the pond. No complaints of devotees and committees have been received so far from any ghats,” Singh said.
The DM added: “The remaining procession and idols’ immersion will be completed by Monday evening. Officers will ensure a safe and orderly conclusion to the festival.”
